Dear Friend, As the 34th anniversary of the University of Central America (UCA) massacre approaches, we invite you to join us in remembrance and solidarity at our virtual vigil this Sunday, November 19, at 1pm PST / 2pm MT / 3pm CT / 4pm ET. This event is not only a tribute to the lives lost but also a call to action for a more just and peaceful world. The 1989 UCA massacre, where Elba Ramos, her daughter Celina, and six Jesuit priests were killed, stands as a stark reminder of the consequences of militarism and external intervention, particularly the U.S. role in Latin America’s violent conflicts. This historical tragedy echoes today in our increasingly militarized world, as we witness ongoing wars and human rights violations, including the recent escalation of violence in Gaza. Our vigil connects past and present struggles, from the UCA martyrs’ opposition to war and work for justice in the 1980s to current efforts against U.S. support for forces implicated in human rights abuses. We also stand in solidarity with those in Gaza, advocating for a cease-fire, the end of blockades, and the protection of innocent lives. We will be joining the SOA Watch musicians collective for a powerful program of remembrance and advocacy. The vigil is an opportunity to honor the memory of those who fought for justice and to recommit ourselves to the ongoing struggle for a world rooted in dignity and peace. Please register for the event by clicking on this link. Upon registration, you will receive the Zoom link and further details about joining the virtual vigil this Sunday. We encourage you to bring a candle or a meaningful item as we pay homage to those who have laid the foundation for our collective liberation. We hope you will consider making a tax-deductible donation to support our efforts in dismantling oppressive structures and advocating for global justice. We look forward to your participation in this Sunday's virtual vigil. Warm regards, SOA Watch |
