Hear from current representatives of historic solidarity organizations about their recent experiences following a Spring 2022 congressional delegation to Central America which included Representatives Cori Bush, Ilhan Omar, Jamaal Bowman, Jesús "Chuy" García, and a staff member of Representative Jan Schakowsky. 

The purpose of the delegation was to learn from movement-builders on the ground in Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador, who have fought human rights violations, enacted by US intervention, corrupt multinational corporations, and drug trafficking organizations. During the delegation, Central American communities in resistance shared the complex realities of mass displacement and forced migration—realities that challenge the U.S. government's official reasoning and current proposals to address migration from the region.

During this May 14th report back, speakers will share their personal reflections about their time on the delegation as well as lessons from movement leaders and elected officials they engaged with while in the region. Delegates will also discuss the unique context of their participation as members of historic solidarity organizations and members of Central American and Caribbean Diasporas, and the US-based Latinx community more broadly.
